X head of product Nikita Bier is leaving the company about a year after joining, and said he will remain as an adviser.
In a post on X, Bier said it was “time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.” He also said, “running this app is a 24/7 job and it’s now time for me to take a breather.”
Bier became one of the platform’s most visible executives during his tenure. He was closely associated with product changes including the “about this account” feature, which displayed accounts’ countries of origin and exposed several popular accounts that had presented themselves as U.S.-based political influencers.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster. I’ll be stepping back from leading product for 𝕏 and will continue on as an advisor.

He also led efforts to overhaul X’s creator monetization program. Those changes included crackdowns on engagement bait and on creators who reposted other people’s content.
Bier did not say what he would do next beyond continuing to advise X. X has not said who will replace him.
Before joining X, Bier founded two anonymous messaging apps aimed at teenagers. Facebook bought his polling app tbh in 2017, and Discord acquired his anonymous compliment app Gas in 2023. Both apps were later shut down.
Bier thanked several teammates in his post, including Benji Taylor, who became X’s head of design earlier this year. Taylor said he would “still be focused on leading design” but was “excited to help continue” Bier’s work.
