Spotify launches User Notes for adding personal context to playlists

Spotify has introduced User Notes, a feature that lets listeners add personal captions to individual songs in playlists they create.

The notes can be used to explain why a track was included, record where the listener first heard it or mention the person who introduced them to the artist. Playlist creators can also use the feature to leave short messages for anyone they share the collection with.

User Notes are available to Spotify listeners aged 16 and older on both free and paid plans, although the initial rollout is limited to selected markets.

The captions are visible to anyone who can access the playlist. Users should therefore review a playlist’s privacy settings before adding information they do not want shared publicly.

A note can be added by opening the three-dot menu beside a track and selecting the “Add note” option.
