Samsung accelerates construction of second chip factory in Texas

Samsung is accelerating the construction of its second chip factory in Taylor, Texas, as demand for advanced chipmaking continues to rise in the United States. The company has focused its investments in the U.S. semiconductor sector in this location.

A significant portion of the foundational work for the second chip fabrication plant has already been completed, ahead of the launch of Samsung’s first factory in Taylor. This progress was confirmed by Taylor Mayor Jim Buzan in an interview with a Korean media outlet.

Mayor Buzan stated that much of the groundwork for the second facility was laid while constructing the first factory, indicating that these plans were established by Samsung several years ago. He noted that the piers and foundation for the second factory were integrated into the construction of the first.

Despite not yet receiving the $4.745 billion allocated under the CHIPS and Science Act, Samsung continues to advance its work on the new facility. This funding, approved by the previous administration in 2024, was intended to support various local and international semiconductor companies in boosting chip production within the United States.

Samsung’s cutting-edge chipmaking facilities in Texas are expected to start production soon. Reports from South Korea indicate that trial production for the first factory could commence as early as next month, with plans to have the facility fully operational by the end of 2026.
