Opera adds built-in eSIM to its Android browser

Opera has added a free eSIM and 3GB of 5G data to its Android browser app, giving users mobile connectivity in 47 countries.

The eSIM is built into the browser, letting users connect to local networks abroad without swapping physical SIM cards. Opera said the connection can provide internet access for the entire phone, while settings are managed through the browser app.

The free 3GB data allowance expires three days after activation. Opera also offers paid top-up plans after the free data runs out.

Opera said users do not need to enter payment information to receive the eSIM and the initial 3GB of data. The same eSIM works across all 47 supported countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

The free 3GB offer is limited to users based in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Poland. Additional plans are available in 3GB, 5GB and 10GB options, with pricing varying by destination.

The feature is available only on devices running Android 10 or later. It also requires an eSIM-compatible phone that is not carrier-locked.

Asked whether the feature would come to iOS, an Opera representative told Engadget the company had “nothing to share at this time.” The Opera mobile browser also includes a VPN. Opera has recently added other features, including a hub for soccer fans and Neon, an AI-driven browser.
