Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced a guest calling feature that allows people without an account to join one-to-one and group calls through a browser.
Guests can only receive and accept invitations, not start calls. The call host must approve them before they can join.
Guests cannot view other participants’ phone numbers, send messages or add members to a call. Once approved, they can share their screen, raise their hand and react with thumbs-up and heart emojis. Their participation will have no time limit.
The feature resembles FaceTime’s option to join calls without an Apple account or device.
WhatsApp said it also plans to launch a calendar-integration plugin later in 2026. The plugin will allow users to create WhatsApp calls from Google or Outlook calendars.
Other WhatsApp additions in 2026 include usernames that let users keep their phone numbers private, encrypted web calls and account signups through iPad. The service may also add an option to schedule messages in advance.
