Anthropic has finalized a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed cloud provider Lambda, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
Nvidia is directly leasing a data center under construction by Hut 8 in Nueces County, Texas, and signed a separate contract with Hut 8 several weeks ago to secure computing capacity at the facility, according to people familiar with the matter.
The arrangement allows Lambda to sign the contract with Anthropic without securing data center space on its own. Lambda will use the Hut 8 facility and install chips purchased from Nvidia, which is also an investor in Lambda.
It was not clear how much Lambda will pay Nvidia for use of the data center space.
The deal structure shows Nvidia taking a larger role in AI infrastructure beyond supplying chips. The Wall Street Journal said Nvidia is facilitating access to computing capacity for firms such as Anthropic.
Anthropic has been seeking cloud capacity agreements after running into computing power supply bottlenecks earlier this year.
The $35 billion agreement is one of the largest cloud-computing contracts in the AI industry. It also gives Lambda a chance to compete for large contracts that often go to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
