Spotify launched Playlist Notes on Monday, a feature that lets listeners add written comments to tracks, podcast episodes and audiobooks in playlists they own or help manage.
The feature expands Spotify’s User Notes tool, which the company introduced last month to let users add personal notes to individual tracks.
Users can add a note through Spotify’s mobile app by opening a playlist they own or collaborate on, tapping the three dots next to a track, podcast episode or audiobook, selecting “add note,” and saving it.
Notes added to a playlist will be visible to anyone who can view that playlist.
Spotify is also adding notes to its editorial playlists, allowing the company’s editors to explain why they selected certain songs.
The editorial version will first appear on major Spotify playlists including Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.
Spotify also introduced Editor Profiles, a feature that shows an editor’s top tracks and albums along with the playlists they manage.
User-created notes are rolling out on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets. Editor notes and Editor Profiles are launching for free and premium users aged 16 and older in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Spotify recently said in its second-quarter earnings report that it had surpassed 300 million subscribers for the first time and reached 777 million monthly active users.
