Instagram introduced a new text-only wordmark on Thursday, replacing a logo version that had been in use for about a decade.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change on Instagram and Threads, describing the redesign as “sharper and more modern” while still referencing the original and keeping the look simple.
The new wordmark uses a cursive-like style, with more pronounced curves in letters including the “s,” “r,” and “g.” Some users said the redesign looks fresher or praised the font choice, while others reacted negatively.
Some online comments joked that the logo reads “Instagzam” because of the shape of the “r.” The brand name remains widely recognizable despite the styling change.
Instagram last made a major design change in 2016, when it replaced its brown camera logo with the pink gradient app icon that is still used today.
Meta has not responded to a request for comment on the redesign or on whether Instagram plans further visual changes, including a possible new app icon.
