Google has announced that it has resolved connectivity issues affecting Android Auto users following multiple complaints about random disconnections. The tech giant is rolling out a new update aimed at addressing these problems, which first emerged after the release of firmware version 17.1.
Earlier this year, Android Auto underwent a significant redesign and feature update, which was showcased during the annual Android Show I/O Edition in May 2026. The update introduced new Gemini Intelligence features, the ability to play YouTube videos, and the Material 3 Expressive design. However, users quickly reported various issues with the platform, particularly related to connectivity.
In response to the complaints, Android Auto community specialist Venkatesh announced on the support page that a new firmware version, Android Auto 17.4, is now available. This update is specifically designed to fix the disconnection issues and problems where the Android Auto screen would freeze, making the system unusable. Users experiencing these issues are advised to update their app to the latest version.
The problems began to surface as early as July 10, when a user on the Android Auto support forum reported ongoing disconnection issues after updating to version 17.2. This user, along with many others, noted that Android Auto would disconnect approximately every five minutes, regardless of the vehicle brand or smartphone model. Additional reports revealed instances of disconnections every three minutes, with audio stopping before the screen froze, indicating a widespread issue among users.
The resolution comes months after the initial complaints about version 17.1. Users who have experienced these problems are encouraged to ensure they are using the latest version to avoid further disruptions.
