Disney has partnered with TikTok to let creators bring Disney-themed vertical videos to Disney+ through a pilot program that will launch in the coming months.
The initial pilot is limited to creators in the United States. Approved creators will have their videos hosted on both TikTok and the Verts section of Disney+, which Disney introduced in the app in March.
Creators who join the program will get access to Disney assets from hundreds of films and series. Confirmed properties include Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.
Disney said the videos will be refreshed regularly to grow the audience and “engage subscribers more deeply in timely fan conversations.”
Disney and TikTok are also launching the Disney Creator Ambassador Program. The initiative will raise the profile of selected creators, give them access to exclusive events and offer rewards.
Disney said internal data showed an average of 6.5 million film and television-related posts were shared on TikTok each day last year. The company also said half of respondents in a survey said TikTok videos had inspired them to watch a movie or television show.
Disney had signaled when it launched Verts in March that it could eventually expand the feature to include fan-generated content. The companies have not announced a firm launch date for the pilot.
